yea thong
Yea Thong felt it was his duty to help the victims of human rights abuses in Cambodia. When the government tried to seize land from his neighbors without compensation, he spoke out. When the dispossessed farmers protested their treatment, he defended them.
For his compassion, Yea Thong was convicted of participating in an insurrectionary movement , committing intentional acts of violence, and inciting the commission of a felony. He was sentenced to seven years in prison on June 13, 2016. He spent three years and 22 days in Prey Sor prison before being released.
While Yea Thong was in prison, two of his three children were forced to drop out of school as his family suffered. After his eventual release, he was diagnosed with bone cancer and was unable to afford the treatment he so desperately needed.
Unfortunately, Yea Thong passed away early on February 14, 2019. CourageFund Cambodia is devastated by the news and our thoughts are with his family.
All donations from this campaign will benefit his wife and three children. Please help support them in their hour of need here.
